Donations to the Trust

All donations are really appreciated and gratefully received. These are used to invest in the garden, for special projects and to maintain the garden.

Donations and Awards

  • 2024

    2024

    A generous donation was made by the AEB Trust for a tree to commemorate Queen Elizabeth and towards the core costs of the garden.

    The Trustees acknowledge with gratitude the Stevenston Charitable Trust's multi-year commitment to the maintenance of the garden.

    A grant from The Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust to enable the replanting and enhancement of the Cottage Garden was generously awarded.

    The Trustees were grateful to the AEB Charitable Trust for their donation towards the repair of the boundary wall.

    The Trustees acknowledge with gratitude the support of The Orcome Trust for the maintenance of the garden.

    The support of The Stevenston Charitable Trust for the upkeep of the garden has been gratefully received.

    The Trustees acknowledge with gratitude the donation of the AEB Trust for the maintenance of the garden.

    The Trustees are grateful for the donations of the family and friends of Pamela in her memory.

  • 2021 and 2019

    2021

    The Trust gratefully received from the AEB Charitable Trust a grant towards the maintenance of the garden.

    A welcome donation from EB Scotland Ltd enabled the repair of stonework in the garden.

    2019

    A generous gift from The AEB Charitable Trust toward the major costs of the maintenance of the garden to a standard appropriate to the status of Haddington as winners of nationwide competitions.

    A generous grant from the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust enabled the provision of an Interpretation Panel for the garden.

  • 2018

    A grant from the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust enabled the replanting of a former rose hedge, well past its best, to be replaced by a yew topiary feature. The first 17th century garden feature to be introduced to the garden since its creation in the late 1970's

    The Finnnis Scott Foundation again provided a grant for important work to maintain the fabric of the garden and its continued development as a community green space.

  • 2017

    The trust was very grateful for the generous assistance of the Finnis Scott Foundation towards the maintenance of The Pleasance. This enabled the continued management and development of the garden as a community green space within the centre of Haddington which is accessible to all. As such the garden has made an important contribution to the town's gold award in successive entries to the 'Beautiful Scotland' competition as commented on by its judges.

  • 2016

    A donation from Haddington and District Amenity Society enabled the renewal of the raised herb sensory beds that had become a tangle of plants and weeds. The topsoil was replaced and shrubby herbs were planted accord.

  • 2015

    An award from the Keep Scotland Beautiful Community Grant Scheme enabled the planting of thousands of snowdrops, as well as some wild tulips and cowslips to enhance the orchard meadow as a spring flowering feature. Ox Slips were later added.
